I inherited lots of things from my mom: her eyes, her smile, her love of true crime and pistachio ice cream. Sadly, I also inherited her mustache.

Facial hair removal has been part of my beauty routine since I was a teen. Together, my mother and I have tried everything: depilatory creams, waxing, threading, shaving, tweezing. Back in the '90s, we even bought Nads from that ridiculous TV informercial (remember?). If you're a woman with face fuzz, then you know nothing works as well as you'd hope.

Then, last year, my mom - an avid Amazon Prime shopper - told me about the Finishing Touch Flawless. She bought it after noticing that it had about 5,000 five-star reviews claiming it removes hair thoroughly and painlessly. "I wish I'd known about this thing sooner," she told me.

I added it to my own Prime cart as soon as we got off the phone. When it arrived at my apartment two days later, I tore it out of the package, powered it up with one AA battery, and tried it out. Within 30 seconds, the hair on my upper lip was completely gone-with no pain, no redness or irritation, and no hassle whatsoever.

Sounds too good to be true, right? I swear it's not. I have been using this lipstick-sized tool a couple times a week for months now, and it always leaves me with smooth, fuzz-free skin. There's good reason why the Finishing Touch is consistently ranked among Amazon's best-selling beauty products-no small feat.

How does Finishing Touch Flawless work, anyway?

"Flawless is not a laser, hot wire, epilator, or razor," states the manufacturer's product description on Amazon. Well, as much as I love this product, I have to call B.S. on that statement, because it is most definitely a razor. A blade spins beneath an 18-karat gold-plated guard and shaves off your hair when you glide it over your skin in a slow, circular motion.

Does hair grow back thicker after you use it?

Not for me or my mother, and not for the many women who've left positive reviews for the Finishing Touch Flawless on Amazon. (Besides, dermatologists say it's a myth that shaving makes hair grow back thicker.)

Any downsides?

Like any razor, the Finishing Touch Flawless dulls and become less effective over time, which Amazon reviewers do complain about. But you can buy a pack of two replacement heads on Amazon for about $12 - and for me, the cost over time adds up to a lot less than I was spending on other hair removal methods.

Where to buy Finishing Touch Flawless

In addition to Amazon, you can buy this product for the same price at Target and Walmart.
