People Are Outraged After Moms Claim a Day Care Waxed Their Kids' Eyebrows
Two mothers in Washington state are claiming that employees at a local day care waxed their children's eyebrows without their knowledge or consent.
One of the mothers, Alyssa Salgado, wrote in a Facebook post that she noticed a red mark between her daughter's eyes and assumed it was a scratch - until she got a closer look. "As soon as I get home, I get a closer look and realized these women decided to wax my daughter's unibrow," she wrote.
Salgado's daughter was reportedly attending day care at Columbia Basin College, which is operated by the Boys & Girls Club of Benton and Franklin Counties.
"I birthed my daughter and love every little thing about her, and these so-called women took it upon themselves to correct the way my daughter should look," she wrote.
She also wrote that another mother, Glenda Maria Cruz, had the same exact thing happen to her son. Cruz shared her own post about the incident on Facebook as well.
"It's really hard honestly, because he's just a baby. He can't defend himself, he's not even 2 yet, and I'm at a point right now that I feel like a bad mom because I can't protect him when he needs me the most," she wrote.
Many other people reacted to the posts with outrage and concern.
Salgado and Cruz both said in various comments on Facebook that they had gone to speak to the director of the day care, but were unsatisfied with the response they received.
Columbia Basin College said in a post shared Saturday that they were investigating the claim.
On Wednesday, the organization released a statement saying that after an internal review, they found the allegations to be unsubstantiated, according to the Seattle Times.
"That's not OK. It's not enough time for a proper investigation," Salgado said to the Seattle Times after learning about the Boys & Girls Club statement. "If they want to go round and round, that's fine. I'm willing to go to bat for my daughter."
A state investigation into the incident is ongoing.
