‘This week’s hero is Jon Stewart’: Photo of TV host smirking as Mitch McConnell passes by goes viral

On Tuesday, the Senate passed a bill to reauthorize the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to provide financial support for first responders and victims through 2092. And although people are excited to see it finally go through, they are seemingly most enthralled by a photo of the bill’s most adamant supporter, Jon Stewart, smiling as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell walks right by him.

The photo, taken by Roll Call photographer Bill Clark, captured the former Daily Show host standing in the Capitol with a smirk on his face, McConnell breezing by him on the way to vote in favor of the fund after the two went head to head to get the bill this far.

Clark wrote a piece for the publication in which he provided a first-person account of the photographed moment. According to him, the two didn’t interact at the time. However, Stewart later thanked the senator for getting the 9/11 bill a vote in the Senate.

Now people are using the photo to praise Stewart for his persistence in getting the bill passed — including actress Olivia Munn who wrote “Jon Stewart is just the best.”

“This week’s hero is Jon Stewart,” one wrote.
