1. Keep their hands clean.

Health Canada recommends washing hands frequently with soap and water, lathering soap in your hands for the 15-second duration of "Happy Birthday." Hand-washing is considered the most effective strategy in protecting both yourself and others from a number of infectious diseases, including influenza.

When washing a baby's hands, use soap and a warm, wet cloth. Rinse the baby's hands with another clean warm, wet towel.

Warning: Don't use a single damp cloth to wash a group of children's hands.
