Old enemies Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson buried the hatchet on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in a bid to win cash for charity.

The pair compared their battle wounds from physical fights over the years as they came face-to-face in the quiz show studio on Saturday night.

As Good Morning Britain host Morgan tried to up the amount of money he could donate to his chosen charity, he explained why he was nervous to use his “Ask the Host” lifeline for help with a question.

He said to presenter Clarkson: “I can think of a million reasons why I shouldn't trust you, including this scar on my forehead.

"And there's your broken finger, from when he struck me.”

But Morgan decided that it was worth putting their differences aside and agreed to ask for help.

He said: ”I’m going to say the words I never thought I'd say. I trust you. I believe you. At least this way if I'm wrong, it's your fault."

Morgan and Clarkson famously brawled at an awards ceremony in 2004, as well as coming to blows on a flight a year earlier.

Although they have made up in recent years by going for drinks together, Morgan still bears a scar on his forehead and Clarkson’s finger shows signs of having been broken.

However, Clarkson’s most famous fight was on the set of his former series Top Gear, where he hit a production colleague and ended up losing his job.

Despite the duo’s team effort to get to a million on the quiz show, Morgan lost £15,000 when he got a question about Lewis Hamilton wrong and his prize fund dropped from £16,000 to £1,000.

The question was which driver had not been a teammate of Hamilton’s, and Morgan incorrectly chose Jenson Button instead of Kimi Raikkonen.

Morgan decided to top up the cash he’d lost with £15,000 of his own money for the charity he was playing for, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which supports the bereaved children of servicemen and women.
