In today’s digital age it’s not uncommon to hear television personalities speak out about the perils of having an online audience.

Whether they’re commenting on physical appearance, perceived intelligence or fashion choices, this online criticism is often negative, but British journalist (and resident Twitter troll) Piers Morgan is claiming one viewer may have saved his life.

His most recent work on the ITV Serial Killer documentary inspired one viewer to reach out with concern after noticing a blemish on Morgan’s chest.

Gillian Nuttall, founder of Melanoma U.K., reached out to the Good Morning Britain Host after watching the documentary. Nuttall noticed the mark just above the neck of his shirt and couldn’t help but reach out in an email to the presenter in hopes that he’d get checked.

“Piers, at the risk of sounding like a lunatic, I’m just watching your program and there’s a blemish on your chest. Have you had it checked?” she wrote, according to The Independent.

The email inspired Morgan to visit a dermatologist immediately.

“This week, a top dermatologist took one look and immediately cut it out,” he said. “Much further delay, he informed me, and it might well have turned cancerous. Give that lady a gold star.”

Nuttall admits the email was sent innocently enough after viewing the British documentary on American serial killers.

“He was interviewing a serial killer and I watched it — he had an open neck shirt on and it caught my eye,” she wrote on social media. “I stopped the TV and looked closely — it really bothered me so as I’d got his email, just thought ‘quick shove in the right direction won’t harm’… I was right. I haven’t got a Piers Morgan fetish, honestly!”

Nuttall founded Melanoma U.K. in 2007 to support those living with the deadly disease – most often detected through skin moles.

Morgan expressed his gratitude to Nuttall by marveling at this discovery happening due to a documentary featuring a serial killer.

“Thanks, Gillian. Oh the irony of a serial killer inadvertently helping to save my life. Merry Christmas!”
