Pippa Middleton welcomed her first child, a baby boy, born on Monday, 15 October. The happy news was confirmed this afternoon, 16 October.

Both mother and baby are said to be "doing well", according to reports.

She followed in the footsteps of her older sister, the Duchess of Cambridge, by giving birth in the exclusive Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. Her financier husband James Matthews was pictured arriving at the hospital yesterday with two large bags, fuelling speculation that the arrival of their new family addition was imminent.

Middleton was last seen at the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

The writer and baby planner announced news that she was expecting in June via her Waitrose column, confirming rumours that had emerged after she attended the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wearing a loose-fitting dress.

Her Waitrose piece focused on pregnancy exercise and in it discussed the "joys of the first trimester and the challenges she faces in adjusting her exercise regime to be as healthy as possible during this exciting time".

"I've noticed my body change but through exercise I feel it's being strengthened," she added.

Middleton and Matthews married in May last year at St Mark's Church in Berkshire.
