Everyone should be able to feel good in underwear. That’s the message Jasmine Grimes, a self-described “plus-size influencer,” wants to share. Grimes posed in her underwear for a series of portraits to celebrate the power of a revealing photo for all bodies.

“I have seen so many people discount the importance of a good underwear selfie, and I don’t think that’s right. Many people have touted how important being confident in your own skin in the real world is, and they are right,” she wrote on Instagram. “There’s something magical about a fat girl flaunting her curves unapologetically in clothes that others would say only belongs to a certain body type because it inspires others to do the same, just like an underwear selfie.”

While “underwear selfies” may seem like something you take in your apartment at night, Grimes makes a convincing argument for sharing images that are representative of all body types. “Photos have the ability to change and shape people’s perceptions of things, which is why more visibility of fat bodies is so important,” she said. Judging by the response to her photo, fans are eager for more visibility. Commenters are calling the spread “inspirational,” “head-turningly gorgeous,” and “amazing.”

Grimes tells Yahoo Style that her photo is intended to remind women to embrace their bodies. “I wanted to post this photo and all of the photos on my account to show other women that it’s completely OK for them to love their bodies the way they are,” she says. “Not everyone is an hourglass or pear shape, even though that’s how a lot of plus-size campaigns and media surrounding plus-size bodies are structured.”

Aside from the overwhelmingly positive response to her photo, Grimes says that fans have reached out to thank her. “I have gotten a lot of comments and messages from women thanking me for showing off my stretch marks, scars, and rolls because it’s something that just isn’t shown all of the time. I think women are ready for the normalization of our bodies without having everything airbrushed out.” And if that means we all have to share underwear selfies, so be it.
