Police deputy suspended after allowing son to use patrol car to pull over ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend
A Florida police deputy has been suspended after his son used his police vehicle to harass the son’s ex-girlfriend, Boston 25 News reports.
Christopher Combs, 23, used his father’s patrol vehicle to allegedly pull over his ex-girlfriend’s car. The incident occurred in October 2017. Combs was arrested and fired from his then-cadet position. His father, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s lieutenant deputy David Combs, was suspended for 40 hours in December and he permanently lost the use of a take-home vehicle.
The younger Combs was arrested after deputies went to investigate an alleged armed robbery. A man told deputies he and his girlfriend were hanging out near a lake when a friend of Combs drove by and yelled at them. The girlfriend told the officers she recognized her ex-boyfriend’s voice on the vehicle’s intercom.
According to the report, Combs allowed his son to take the car to fill it up with gas, but his son used it for more than just that. Christopher Combs followed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend as they were leaving a lake in the Pompano Beach area. He activated the emergency lights and made the couple pull over. He forced the boyfriend to walk to the patrol car with his hands up and lie on the ground, terrorizing the couple.
According to the Palm Beach Post, the younger Combs was a cadet with the Palm Beach County sheriff’s office and his father was a lieutenant with the agency.
An accomplice who was in the passenger seat of the patrol car got out and took all the new boyfriend’s belongings, including a pocket knife and various gift cards. The men in the patrol car then left the scene.
The younger Combs was charged with robbery, impersonating a police officer and false imprisonment, and placed under house arrest.
His case is still awaiting trial.
