From Town & Country

Earlier this month, a video of David Dao being forcefully removed from a United Airlines flight went viral. Dao, whose injuries reportedly include the loss of teeth, a concussion, and a broken nose according to his lawyer, plans to sue the airline for a yet-to-be announced sum, though an aviation law expert thinks he could stand to win millions of dollars, if the case ever sees the inside of a courtroom.

Now, the police officers' side of the story is coming to light. On Monday, the Chicago Department of Aviation released the officer's report of the incident, in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the Associated Press.

According to the report, two officers were called to the plane in response to a disturbance involving two people who refused to leave the aircraft.

The document, which identifies the name of one of the officers, James Long, claims Dao was both verbally and physically abusive before "flailing" his arms, falling, and hitting his mouth on an armrest. Long added that Dao was dragged off the plane because he refused to stand.

The officer said he wrote the report and gave his version of events only because he faced losing his job.

United CEO Oscar Munoz has made several statements in the aftermath of the public relations nightmare, eventually saying, "No one should ever be mistreated this way."

Both United Airlines and the DOT consumer protection division are looking into the incident.
