Say hello to my little friend.

The PeriPage A6 is a portable, battery-powered printer that's equal parts fun, practical and, dare I say, cute? Because, look closely, the front side looks like the face of a bear. (Maybe they should have called it the BeariPage?)

It originally sold for as much as $74, but right now you can buy the PeriPage A6 at Walmart for just $25. It's available in your choice of eight fun colors (though a few are priced slightly higher). This is a clearance price, offered only for a limited time.

The A6 is a thermal printer, meaning it uses no ink. Instead, it prints on special paper that comes in rolls. You get a basic white roll to get you started, but there are lots of other options available: pastel colors, self-adhesive stickers/labels and so on. (For example, here's a 9-roll variety pack for $15.)

It's hard to believe something this small can do what it does, but the A6 measures roughly 3.1"×3.1"×1.7" and weighs less than half a pound. It could literally fit into a coat pocket, let alone a purse or backpack.

Within that tiny frame lies not only the print mechanism and a roll of paper, but also a rechargeable battery. PeriPage doesn't say how much printing you can do on a charge, but given that it's a 1,000-mAh battery, my semi-educated estimate is "a lot."

The printer pairs with your phone via Bluetooth (though you can also plug it into your Windows PC); an app lets you choose what to print. This can be anything from simple text to handwritten notes/pictures to photos on your phone.

I've used the A6 quite a bit and really like it, though there are a couple caveats to note. First, the aforementioned app isn't super-intuitive; it takes a little practice to get the hang of it. Second, because the printer resolution is just 200 dpi, don't expect razor-sharp images. Photos tend to look pretty pixelated — fine for what they are, but not something you'd want to put in an album.

And don't forget, this is a monochrome printer; any color you want will have to come from the paper.

These nits aside, this is a crazy-good deal at $25. I think it would make a particularly nice gift for kids, as it's fun to goof around with and extra paper rolls are cheap.
