How Precious Lee became a top plus-size model: 'Struggle for me is something that I blaze through'
Success did not come easy to Precious Lee — however, the model admitted during theCURVYcon on Saturday, that being unapologetically herself has gotten her to the top of the modeling world.
“When I say I started from the bottom, I mean I worked my way up through this industry,” Lee said. “There’s always going to be a struggle, and that struggle for me is something that I blaze through and I will continue to blaze through, and I will not allow that to be something that will slow me down, discourage me. I am proud to be black and I want that to be shown in everything that I do. And if I could do that and I could do it well, and I continue to do this stuff, then we won’t have to continue to talk about privilege, because it will be done.”
For someone who is navigating the mostly straight-size fashion industry, Lee aims to bridge the gap between this marginalized space by being more than a walking mannequin and using her voice, in hopes that society will change its perception of peoples’s differences. “I’m propelled to do this because I want to show what it is that we can do, and show the range, and show that we are fashionable, that we are beautiful, and that we have a voice,” she said.
