In the week since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their baby news, many of us have been wondering whether the newest addition to the royal family will be a boy or a girl. Although it's likely we'll have to wait until next spring before we find out the gender, Prince Harry has just made his hopes clear.

During an event at the Invictus Games in Sydney over the weekend, a spectator called out to Harry: 'Congratulations! I hope it's a girl.' As Harry was quickly walking past, he asked, 'Sorry?' before the crowd member repeated, 'I hope it's a girl.' After hearing what she said, the Prince responded: 'So do I!'.

This isn't the first time Harry has shared his wish for a baby girl during the royal tour. Whilst visiting the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne last week, Harry was introduced to a new mum, called Jessica Bonaddido, and her five-month-old infant. When greeting the babe in arms he noted, 'That’s a great name.' The name in question? Harriet.

Bets are already being placed on what name the happy couple will choose for their first child, with the current frontrunners suggesting that Harry and Meghan will stick to a traditional moniker like Alice or Alexander. However, the friends and family of the parents-to-be could have something to do with their decision.

The Duke and Duchess have been given a 'long list' of potential baby names suggested by those closest to them, The Telegraph reports.

During a tram ride in Melbourne on day three of their Australia tour, the couple met with pupils from a local school who quizzed the royals on their baby name preferences.

'We've been given a long list of names from everyone, we're going to sit down and have a look at them', the Duchess replied, said the schoolchildren.

Another pupil shared: 'She said that she hadn't thought of one as it was still quite early.'
