From Town & Country

As it turns out, Meghan Markle received two new rings today. In addition to the simple Welsh gold band Prince Harry placed on her finger at the ceremony this morning, the groom also gave his bride a striking aquamarine cocktail ring, with a special significance: it belonged to his mother, Diana.

It's one of the more striking, colorful pieces in the late-princess's jewelry collection.

According to People in 1997, Diana wore the gemstone to an auction of her own wardrobe at Christie's. The piece is actually part of a set. Diana wore it with a matching bracelet, which features the stone set amid several strands of pearls.

It's unclear if she received the set.

We had predicted that Prince Harry might give Meghan a piece from his mother's collection, as is custom. Prince Philip gave the Queen a diamond bracelet which was made from stones from his mother’s tiara, and it’s thought that William gave Kate a pair of Diana’s sapphire and diamond earrings that were remodeled specially for Kate.

Of course, both Kate and Meghan's engagement rings also have ties to Princess Diana. Kate's was Diana's iconic sapphire ring, while Meghan's was designed by Prince Harry and features two diamonds from his mother's collection.

This wasn't the only way the royal wedding paid tribute to Diana. Not only did her sister give a reading during the ceremony, but Meghan's bouquet was also filled with forget-me-knots, Diana's favorite flower.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will spend their evening at Frogmore House with only their closest friends and family members. Unlike this morning's reception at Windsor Castle, only 200 guests are attending tonight's intimate party, which is being put on by Prince Charles.
