Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Make Time's List of the 100 Most Influential People

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being recognized this week as some of the most influential people in the world. The couple made this year's Time 100 list, and are featured together on the cover of the publication in a photo taken by Pari Dukovic, marking the first time the Sussexes have posed together for a magazine cover shoot. Harry and Meghan are being honored in the "Icons" category this year, with chef, humanitarian, and founder of the World Central Kitchen José Andrés writing about their impact for the publication.

"Springing into action is not the easy choice for a young duke and duchess who have been blessed through birth and talent, and burned by fame. It would be much safer to enjoy their good fortune and stay silent," Andrés writes.

"That’s not what Harry and Meghan do, or who they are. They turn compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to the voiceless through media production. Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need—offering mental-health support to Black women and girls in the U.S., and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean.

In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the duke and duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle."

While Harry and Meghan are the only royals on this year's list, this isn't the first time a member of the British royal family has made the Time 100. Both Harry and Meghan have appeared on the list before, as have Prince William and Kate, and Queen Elizabeth. Pippa Middleton has also made the list, as have several members of other royal families around the world such as Queen Rania of Jordan, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck of Bhutan, and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands to name just a few.

Later this month, the honorees will be highlighted in a Time 100 TV special, which will air on Monday, September 20, at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
