Prince Rupert’s public budget meeting for 2024 to hold extra importance
The annual public budget meeting will be hosted by the City of Prince Rupert on Nov. 9 at Coast Mountain College.
Usually held in the spring, the city said the public meeting has been bumped so the city can “proceed with purchasing for the upcoming year.”
As the city continues to wait for federal funds, Mayor Herb Pond has said the extensive temporary work to the city’s pipes has put the city well over this year’s budget, bringing an added sense of importance to 2024 budget deliberations.
Pond has previously said Council will be around $3 million over budget this year due to constant work on the city’s pipes, while minor fixes to infrastructure such as repairs to the 4th Avenue West pathway have been put aside because of the city’s budget struggles.
The budget meeting is an opportunity for Prince Rupert residents to have their voice heard on budgetary issues, while also getting more insight into the city’s plans to fix the water pipes, according to the city’s announcement on the meeting.
Those unable to physically attend the meeting are able to contact the city with their concerns as well.
