Prince William's adorable nickname for Princess Charlotte will make you melt

Prince William recently revealed his adorable French nickname for Princess Charlotte during a recent visit to Kate's Back to Nature garden for the Chelsea Flower Show.

Prince William just revealed Princess Charlotte’s surprising nickname and it is the most adorable thing we’ve seen all day.

Earlier this week, the Cambridges spent some quality time at the duchess’s Back to Nature garden for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show ahead of its public opening, and boy, did they live it up. The normally private royal family was on full display as photographers snapped photos of Prince William, Kate, their three children playing in the garden—which features a tree house, a rope swing, and plenty of lush green space to explore.

Kensington Palace released a series of photos and short videos from the family’s time at the Back to Nature garden on Instagram and Twitter—including an appearance from Queen Elizabeth II, who was given a tour of the garden by Middleton.

In one of the videos posted to Twitter, Prince George, swinging on the rope swing, expressed serious enthusiasm for his mom’s garden, telling Prince William he’d give the garden a rating of 20 out of 10. That’s seriously high praise.

While George’s passionate recommendation is definitely something we’re keeping in mind as we plan our spring garden visits, it was another part of the video that caught our attention. Taking his turn on the rope swing, Prince William called out to “Mignonette” for assistance, revealing Princess Charlotte’s adorable French nickname.

The young princess answered her father’s call with a sweet “Yes?” as he asked her to give him a push on the rope swing.

Her Royal Highness is a strong advocate for the proven benefits the outdoors has on physical and mental health, and the positive impact that nature and the environment can have on childhood development in particular. Over the past months, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have helped The Duchess gather moss, leaves and twigs to help decorate @The_RHS Back to Nature Garden. Hazel sticks collected by the family were also used to make the garden’s den. The Duchess told Monty Don in an interview for the BBC: “I really feel that nature and being interactive outdoors has huge benefits on our physical and mental wellbeing, particularly for young children. I really hope that this woodland that we have created really inspires families, kids and communities to get outside, enjoy nature and the outdoors, and spend quality time together.”

According to Merriam-Webster, Mignonette stems from the French word mignon, which means darling. While certainly not the first nickname we’d associate with the name Charlotte, Mignonette is such a beautiful (and definitely posh) nickname for the princess.

Co-designed with Andrée Davies and Adam White, the Duchess of Cambridge’s Back to Nature woodland garden was inspired by childhood memories, with the hope to encourage children to spend time outdoors. If the royal family’s day at the garden is any indication, not to mention George’s glowing review, Kate and her co-designers more than exceeded in their design’s goal.
