Prince William Revealed the Worst Gift He Gave Kate Middleton
"She's never let me forget that."
Even royals have a hard time choosing gifts — Prince William recently recalled the worst gift he's ever given Kate Middleton, and it's a doozy.
The Duke of Cambridge was a guest on BBC's That Peter Crouch Podcast on this week, and his hosts, Peter Crouch, Chris Stark and Tom Fordyce, began discussing the worst presents they've given their partners. One of them mentioned he'd given his wife a tree, and asked Prince William, "Can you beat a worse present than that?"
"I probably can," Prince William said. "I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once. She's never let me forget that."
In his defense, he said, "that was early on in the courtship," after the two met at St. Andrews University in Scotland.
"I tell you what, I think that sealed the deal," he joked. "She fell for me at that point."
"I think I was convincing myself about it," he continued. "I was like, 'These are really amazing! Look how far you can see!' And she started looking at me going, 'They're binoculars. What's going on?' ... It didn't go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars."
To be fair, he and the Duchess of Cambridge were students when they met, and college kids aren't exactly known for their exquisite taste, prince or not.

Thankfully, things seem to have worked out for them — and hopefully, Prince William's gift-giving game has improved over the years.
