Princess Beatrice Wore Valentino Heels She's Had for Years to Her Royal Wedding
Princess Beatrice knows that when it comes to style, new isn't always the way to go. From her vintage dress, on loan from the Queen, to her heirloom tiara, Beatrice's wedding day look was all about embracing the old.
And though royal watchers didn't notice at first, this was even the case with her shoes. The Princess chose a sparkly pair of Valentino heels (a savvy choice, what with the dress's diamanté designs, and the tiara's glittering jewels) for her big day, which she'd already had in her closet for years.
Memorably, the Princess wore them to another royal wedding—that of Prince William and Kate Middleton, back in 2011. Then, thanks to her shorter hemline, they were on full display.
Recycling years-old shoes is just one more way Beatrice departed from the sartorial model established by recent Windsor brides. The women at the center of the biggest royal weddings in past years—Kate, Meghan Markle, and Princess Eugenie—all hand-picked a couturier to craft their custom gowns, which were developed over a series of time-consuming fittings.
Beatrice's, on the other hand, was a decades-old dress designed by Norman Hartnell (once the royals' go-to dressmaker, and the man behind the garments the Queen wore to both her own nuptials and her coronation), which was remodeled and fitted by the Queen's trusted dressmakers, Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin. Paired with the Queen Mary Diamond Fringe Tiara—the very same sparkler that Queen Elizabeth wore on her wedding day—Beatrice's look was a clever statement about the royals' enduring legacy.
