It's never easy for a parent to be separated from their children, and being a royal doesn't change that. That's a fact Princess Charlene of Monaco has clearly become well acquainted with in recent months, as health issues and the ongoing global pandemic have kept her apart from her 6-year-old twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

The princess originally traveled to South Africa back in May to support her conservation work in the region for what was planned as a short trip, but a series of health issues, including surgical intervention to correct an ear, nose, and throat problem, have prevented her from being able to fly ever since. While she and her family were reunited in August when her husband, Prince Albert, and the children came to South Africa to visit her, she is now reportedly preparing to return to Monaco.

In a new interview shared to Charlene's Instagram, the princess spoke out about her eagerness to return to Monaco, saying, "I cannot wait to get home to my children, who I miss terribly." She added, "I think if there is any mom out there who has been separated from her children for months, [she] would feel the same way I feel."

However, the long delay doesn't seem to have tarnished her resolve to remain active in South African wildlife conservation efforts. She said in the interview that she is, "Determined to come back to the KwaZulu-Natal region and continue the work I have set out to do, as I have done in many countries over Africa and in South Africa," she said. "We save lives. Right now we have a species that is on the verge of extinction. I cannot sit back and let this happen."
