Princess Eugenie is wishing her parents a happy wedding anniversary -- despite the fact that they got divorced nearly 25 years ago.
The newly-married British royal took to Instagram to share a special message for parents Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew -- a day late -- to commemorate 33 years since their July 23, 1986 royal wedding at Westminster Abbey in London.
"Who else has ever forgotten to congratulate their parents on their wedding anniversary!" she captioned a pair of photos from their wedding day. "I'm a day late but I wanted to celebrate my parents getting married 33 years ago... Thank you for always being the best of friends and bringing us up together."
Eugenie, 29, turned heads with the post honoring their wedding, considering that they split just six years later in 1992, before finalizing their divorce four years later. They welcomed their oldest daughter, Beatrice, now 30, in August 1988 and Eugenie in March 1990.
Despite their split, Fergie and Andrew have remained close over the years and have successfully co-parented their daughters. The former couple sat next to one another at Eugenie's wedding last fall, and the Duchess of York even still resides in the family's home, the Royal Lodge at Windsor.
In 2016, Ferguson defended the unorthodox setup by saying that "we’re very happy with the way things are," adding, "I think the great thing is we absolutely are the most extraordinary example of a unified family."
Commenters on Eugenie's anniversary post seemed to agree with the royal about her parents' impressive co-parenting abilities, having raised two extraordinary daughters who were just children when their parents split up.
"I think they’re amazing and don’t enough credit for their co parenting," someone wrote.
"Friendship is the most important part of a marriage & they have that even if they don’t have the title what’s worth more," another user said. "Great role models to two lovely ladies."
"Your parents are the happiest divorced couple I’ve ever seen," one of Eugenie's other followers remarked. "Kudos on a real lesson of civility!"
