The news was shared officially on social media by the official royal family account, with a sweet photo of Princess Eugenie and husband Jack on their wedding day and a caption that read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021."
But over on her own Instagram page, Eugenie made her own personal announcement to her followers, featuring two very adorable, previously unseen photographs. "Jack and I are so excited for early 2021..." the Princess wrote, adding a little baby emoji. Alongside the comment, she shared a picture of the cutest little fluffy baby booties, shaped like teddy bears. My heart!
As well as that, the royal uploaded a photo of herself and Jack beaming at the camera (pictured top), showing just how happy the couple are at the prospect of becoming parents.
Eugenie's mum, Sarah Ferguson, also shared some extra comment with Daily Mail royal correspondent Rebecca English about how she's feeling about her daughter's pregnancy. "‘I am so excited by the news that Eugenie and Jack are expecting their first child. Thrilled for them both and in my 60th year cannot wait to be a grandmother," she said. "Welcoming a new baby into the York family is going to be a moment of profound joy," the mum-of-two and soon-to-be grandmother added.

As you can see from both Eugenie's personal announcement and the official royal one, details are currently pretty vague about exactly when the next royal baby is due; all we know currently is that we'll be welcoming him or her into the world "early" next year.
However, that's actually in keeping with the royal tradition, which never usually sees a specific date released. Considering Princess Eugenie will probably have waited until at least the 12 week mark - and likely a few weeks beyond that - to share her news with the public, you could perhaps expect baby Brooksbank to arrive in February or early March.
Although this baby news came as a very happy surprise, earlier this summer there had been some speculation that Princess Eugenie might be expecting. The royal was pictured with husband Jack up in Scotland, visiting her grandmother the Queen on the Balmoral estate, and the photos led to some wondering whether she might have a baby on the way.

In the images, Princess Eugenie can be seen wearing a green overcoat with black leggings, and she's carrying an orange parcel that looks to be a gift for her grandmother. Over in the comments, followers were reading into what they could see. "I think Eugenie is pregnant," wrote one person, while another added: "Eugenie. Hmmm. Is that just her coat?" And it seems they were right!
We couldn't be happier for Eugenie and Jack, and we can't wait to watch her bloom!
