Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have invited 2,640 members of the public to the grounds of Windsor Castle for the Royal wedding.

Those lucky enough to score an invite will be able to watch the arrival and departure of the bride and groom on May 19, Kensington Palace said in a statement.

1,200 of the chosen ones must first be nominated by nine regional Lord Lieutenant offices; the couple has asked that the chosen ones are “from a broad range of backgrounds and ages, including young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities”, the Palace said.

The additional guests will include 200 people from charities and organisations that the couple are closely associated with and 100 pupils from the local Royal and St George’s schools.

610 Windsor Castle community members are also invited, plus 530 members of the Royal households and Crown Estate.

The Kensington Palace statement said: “Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle have said they want their wedding day to be shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations too.

“This wedding, like all weddings, will be a moment of fun and joy that will reflect the characters and values of the bride and groom.”

The official guest list for the ceremony itself remains under wraps, but celebs rumoured to be attending alongside the likes of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles include the Spice Girls and Elton John.
