This puppy was kicked out of police training for being too nice

We’ve all seen the occasional police dog rooming airports or government buildings and had to restrain ourselves from petting it. The dogs are trained specifically to concentrate on their duties, and steer clear from the whims of gushing humans. However, one aspiring Australian police pup got the boot from police academy because he was just too dang friendly.

After six weeks, the Queensland Government House determined that the sweet German Shepherd puppy named Gavel was unfit for policing duties.

Officials noted, according to the BBC, that he “did not display the necessary aptitude for a life on the front line.”

Turns out Gavel comes from a long line of police dogs. And when the little one was first brought to the academy, he held a lot of promise.

But don’t feel too sad for Gavel. The pup won the heart of Paul de Jersey, governor of Queensland, who took him in and appointed him to the position of “Vice-Regal Dog.” Now Gavel is doing what he does best – greeting guests and tour groups and accompanying the governor to special events.
