Pussycat Dolls suffer 'awkward' One Show blunder during live studio performance

Don’t cha wish your TV performance could just go ahead without a glitch? That might be what The Pussycat Dolls were thinking anyway, when they suffered a major technical issue while appearing on The One Show.

The recently reformed girlband were set to sing their new single React on the live BBC programme on Wednesday. But unfortunately, that’s exactly what they didn’t do when the music started playing.

Instead, Nicole Scherzinger, Kimberly Wyatt, Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta and Ashley Roberts stood with their backs to the camera for about 30 seconds before realising that the tune had kicked in. The track ended abruptly and host Matt Baker quickly introduced the song for a second time.

Viewers flocked to social media to laugh about the blunder, with one Twitter user writing: "Did someone start the recording without telling the Pussycat Dolls to start miming?"

Another said: "Awks Pussycat Dolls on The One Show tonight & their ear pieces weren’t working and the hosts had to reintroduce them."

The One Show has since revealed that it was to blame for the mishap, tweeting: “We apologise for the false start to last night’s Pussycat Dolls performance. The [band] were singing live to a backing track, which at the start they could not hear due to a technical error on our part.”

In November, the group announced plans for a nine-show UK tour that is set to kick off in April.

"It's been a few years in the making. We're ready to get out there and do what we love, and the stars aligned,” Roberts told Lorraine Kelly on her ITV breakfast show at the time. “We've all been busy making babies and all those kinds of things.”

After splitting in 2010, The Pussycat Dolls – known best for hits such as Buttons and Stickwithu – found fame individually; Roberts, with appearances on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and Strictly Come Dancing while Wyatt judged on Got to Dance and won Celebrity MasterChef.

Aside from her involvement on The X Factor, Scherzinger launched a successful solo career over here, achieving number one in the UK singles chart with her song Don’t Hold Your Breath.
