The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be banned from using the ‘Sussex Royal’ label, following their decision to step down as senior royals earlier this year.

After lengthy discussions, the Queen and senior officials are expected to conclude that it will be no longer appropriate for couple to continue using the term ‘royal’ in their branding

Prince Harry and Meghan unveiled their new 'Sussex Royal' website after they announced that they would be stepping away from the monarchy and becoming financially independent.

Despite their efforts to trademark the brand, the couple may now not be able to use the title, with a source explaining that it “needed to be reviewed”.

“As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are stepping back as senior members of the royal family and will work towards financial indolence, use of the word ‘Royal’, in this context, needed to be reviewed. Discussions are still ongoing,” The Telegraph reports.

“As part of the process to transition the Duke and Duchess of Sussex into their new chapter - planning has been well underway around the launch of their new non-profit organisation. Details will be shared in due course.”

Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan made the decision to step back from their position as senior royals and to become financially independent from the royal family, dividing their time between the UK and Canada. They have spent the first few weeks of the year living in Vancouver.

The couple aim to carry out a "progressive new role within this institution" and provide their family with "the space to focus on the next chapter".
