Queen Camilla's Blue Velvet Holiday Dress Featured a Meaningful Detail
This isn't the first time Queen Camilla has paired her moth brooch with a blue dress.
Queen Camilla attended the annual Christmas tree decorating ceremony at Clarence House today—and she wore a meaningful festive outfit for the occasion. The queen consort wore a deep royal blue velvet midi dress with a loose pussy bow collar, which she paired with black tights and tall black heeled boots.
Camilla added a touch of sparkle to the look, pinning her moth brooch to the left side of her chest. She paired the gem-set brooch, which features diamonds and blue sapphires, with a smaller horsefly-shaped brooch, in a playful, whimsical insect-themed touch.
This isn't the first time Camilla has paired her moth brooch with a blue dress. Earlier this year, the queen consort paired the same brooch with another blue midi dress while bidding farewell to the Empress of Japan at Buckingham Palace after her state visit to the UK. According to the The Court Jeweller, the brooch may have been a nod to the Empress's involvement in the country's traditional silkworm farms. Camilla was also spotted wearing the smaller horsefly brooch this March while paying a visit to Shropshire.
The queen consort has quite the collection of insect-themed jewelry—she has also been seen wearing a bee brooch on occasion.
Camilla's latest appearance saw her meeting with children and families supported by the charities Helen & Douglas House and Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity. The event comes after Camilla took a step back from several royal duties after suffering a chest infection in November and later being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Her son, Tom Parker Bowles, later explained that there was "no conspiracy theory" surrounding her illness. "I think... she did the [Australia] tour and she caught some kind of awful bug and then before she was well again, [she] worked too hard as she's one to do," he said during an appearance on "The Go To Food Podcast."
Camilla got back to her royal duties last week when she attended a Christmas luncheon to honor volunteers at the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), for which she wore a Christmassy dark green suit for the occasion.
With today's event, Camilla seems to be ramping up her appearances as Christmas approaches. In fact, earlier this week, she joined forces with King Charles to release their annual Christmas card—and once again, Camilla made a case for making blue the unexpected color of the festive season.
