How the Queen chooses what to wear each morning is fascinating

The more we learn about the goings on at Buckingham Palace, the more we'd love to be friends with the Queen.

Not only does she stop for a slice of chocolate biscuit cake in the afternoon, wherever she is in the world, and love a glass of Champagne, but Her Majesty also has an entire floor dedicated to her clothes, shoes and bags – reportedly choosing what to wear each day from sketches drawn by her staff.

According to former royal butler Paul Burrell, the Queen "has to have her outfits brought down to her, all her clothes are kept on the top floor".

"Her dresser will bring down in the morning two outfits, which are sketched with pieces of material clipped to them so that the Queen can remember whether it’s silk or cotton or wool," he told Yahoo's Royal Box.

"The one the Queen picks is the one which is brought downstairs from up above so she doesn’t actually see her wardrobe with clothes in it."

What an insight.

Royal fashion protocol doesn't end there, because the Queen will often opt for a brightly coloured coat, hat and dress by her dressmaker Angela Kelly for a very specific reason: so she can be spotted in a crowd. She also always carries a handbag by her favourite designer Launer.
