Queen Elizabeth Was Hospitalized Earlier This Week
Earlier this week, Queen Elizabeth had plans to mark the 100th anniversary of Northern Ireland, but she "reluctantly" canceled the trip following medical advice to rest. "The Queen has reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days," read a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
"Her Majesty is in good spirits and is disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she had been due to undertake a series of engagements today and tomorrow. The Queen sends her warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland, and looks forward to visiting in the future." Per royal reporter and Town & Country contributor Victoria Murphy, a royal source confirmed at the time that this was not a Covid-related health concern.
Now, following a story published by the Sun, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth was hospitalized on Wednesday afternoon.
"Following medical advice to rest for a few days, The Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits," reads a statement released Thursday evening by a Buckingham Palace spokesperson.
Aside from acknowledging that the visit was for preliminary investigations, Buckingham Palace did not specify why the Queen was hospitalized as she is entitled to medical privacy. The overnight nature of the stay was for practical reasons and an indication of the medical team's cautious approach. The Queen was back to work at her desk in Windsor Castle this afternoon, undertaking light duties.
