Meghan Markle is set to go on her debut royal engagement without Prince Harry in tow but luckily, she’ll have Queen Elizabeth II to show her the ropes.

According to the royal family’s official website, the Duchess of Sussex (we’re still getting used to calling her that) will join Her Majesty on their first joint public engagement on 14 June.

The pair are planning a road trip to Chester where they will unveil Mersey Gateway Bridge in Widnes before officially opening the Storyhouse Theatre – a fitting engagement for a previous actress, don’t you agree?

According to sources, the royal pair will travel overnight to Cheshire via the royal train. The nine-carriage sleeper train dates back to 1977 and has previously been used during the Silver Jubilee tours.

Interestingly, the train is only available to the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Camilla, and as far as we know, William, Kate, and Harry have never been afforded the honour of travelling on it.

It will of course give the Queen and Meghan the chance to get to know one and other away from the glare of the public eye.

Following a busy day of regal duties, the Queen and her new granddaughter-in-law will later enjoy a well-deserved spot of lunch at Chester’s Town Hall. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

Though it will mark their first joint engagement, the royal duo have attended a handful of events together in recent months. They were first photographed on Christmas Day alongside other senior members of the family at Sandringham before Meghan made her debut appearance at the Commonwealth Day Service back in April.

It is widely speculated that Harry and Meghan are currently on their honeymoon in Canada though the newlyweds could soon be flying home in time for Saturday’s Trooping the Colour.
