Rachel Bloom isn't the only star who had to buy her own red carpet dress

At the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” star Rachel Bloom turned heads in a low-cut, black gown with a lace bodice.

But it’s not $3,500 USD Gucci gown itself that has people talking — it’s the fact that Bloom bought the curve-hugging number herself.

“It’s hard to get places to lend me dresses because I’m not a size 0,” she told Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet. “But I can afford it, so it’s OK.”

This isn’t the first time the 30-year-old actress has bought her own dress. Back in August, she told WealthSimple that she simply doesn’t fit in sample sizes.

“A lot of fashion houses are reluctant to lend clothes that aren’t in the sample sizes of 0 and 2, so it’s getting harder and harder for me to find clothes without buying them,” she said. “That’s the whole problem with the fashion industry. My body size is literally normal and healthy, but when you put me next to a model, I look obese.”

Bloom isn’t the only star who’s paid out-of-pocket for their dresses. From Bryce Dallas Howard to Madonna, click through the gallery to see who has purchased their own red carpet looks.
