Ralph Lauren's Whole Family Wore Coordinated Tuxedos to See Him Be Knighted at Buckingham Palace
On Wednesday, Ralph Lauren became the first American fashion designer to ever receive an honorary knighthood from the British royal family. Prince Charles did the honors in a private ceremony in Buckingham Palace, presenting Lauren with his KBE (Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for Services to Fashion.
But where Lauren goes, his whole family follows-and they follow in style. Just after Lauren was presented with his KBE, the whole Lauren family gathered around him and Prince Charles for a group photo, revealing a collective sartorial choice.
Every member of the Lauren family-that's Ralph Lauren himself, his brother Jerry, his wife Ricky, their three children, Andrew, David, and Dylan, and their spouses Lauren Bush Lauren and Paul Arrouet-wore some variation of a tux.
Some lapels were wider than others, some double-breasted and others not, but tuxes all the same. Ricky and Dylan Lauren sported the boldest variations, both in white: a duster-length jacket for Ricky, and an all-over shiny fabric for Dylan.
It's fitting that the family came along, as they've long been integral to Lauren's brand-and, of course, important to Lauren himself. "I am very emotional about life and family-I’ve been married for 54 years," Lauren told Town & Country last fall. "I’ve appreciated my life and my family, and I’ve been very lucky."
Lauren also revealed that, even as he was celebrating the 50th anniversary of his eponymous brand, he still feels unsure sometimes. "Well, now it’s my 50th anniversary and I’m still worried. I don’t take anything for granted," he said. "I do what I do, and I have an audience that I speak to, and I go for what I really believe, but I know not everybody thinks I’m great."
Perhaps a knighthood will help assuage that nagging doubt.
