Ramy Brook Sharp Honored at Rens Gala
HOOP STARS: Ramy Brook Sharp, creative director and founder of Ramy Brook, the advanced contemporary firm, was honored Thursday night for her support of The Rens, a not-for-profit organization that provides complimentary individualized tutoring and SAT prep for more than 250 basketball playing inner-city youth.
Sean Cassidy, president of DKC, an integrated marketing, public relations and government relations firm, was also honored.
The Rens gala took place at Cipriani Wall Street and was attended by 900 guests, including Donny Deutsch, Richard Plepler, Desiree Gruber, David Granger and Clive Davis. In addition, Basketball Hall of Famers Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, Nate “Tiny” Archibald, Spencer Haywood, Lenny Wilkens and Isiah Thomas attended, as well as former New York Knicks players John Starks, Larry Johnson, Herb Williams and Mel Davis. Chris Cuomo served as host.
“When I think of Rens, I think of three words: family, hope and kindness,” said Sharp, who was introduced by her husband, Rob Sharp, co-chief executive officer of Ramy Brook. “The Rens organization is a family to many of the players. It’s is a place where players feel safe.”
The Rens has established itself as a leader in the anti-gun violence movement in the U.S. The Rens’ staunch opposition to guns is symbolized by youngsters wearing an orange emblem on their basketball uniform.
