Ratched Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

From Town & Country

It didn't take long for Netflix subscribers to inhale the first season of Ratched, Ryan Murphy's sumptuously-filmed origin story for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest's villainous nurse. Now, the wait begins for season two—here's what we know about the show's second run so far.

It's already been ordered by Netflix.

The streaming service ordered two seasons of Ratched off the bat back in 2017, so fans don't have to worry about waiting for an official renewal. Unfortunately, though, that doesn't necessarily mean that Ratched's second run will drop anytime soon.

Star Sarah Paulson says the production timeline is still up in the air.

"Nobody knows anything about season two because Ryan [Murphy], with the number of things he has going on, who’s to know when when that’s all going to begin, and you throw in the pandemic and then we think well who knows," Sarah Paulson, the actress who plays the show's title character, told Variety. She wasn't kidding about Murphy's loaded schedule—she herself is set to start production on two of the super-producer's other shows, American Horror Story and American Crime Story: Impeachment, this fall.

Paulson told The Wrap that she's trying to think about Ratched like The Crown, another Netflix series that has taken sizable breaks between seasons. The actress herself is a "desperate fan" of the show, and finds herself binging new seasons "like a raved nut," after spending so long waiting. "I like to put us into that timeframe in my mind that if people consume it the way I hope they do, they will anxiously be waiting for the next installment when it does come," she said. "And it’ll make it that much sweeter."
