Doherty, 47, had reconstruction surgery three weeks ago, and the recovery process has been emotionally and physically rough. On Sunday, the actress shared a photo of herself with her surgeon on Instagram and opened up about how cancer has brought her “yet another humbling moment.”

Doherty’s openness and positive outlook are clearly appreciated by her 1 million followers. The post is filled with messages of support, with many people sharing stories of their own. The actress has taken time to reply to many of the messages, offering words of encouragement.

In April 2017, Doherty revealed that she was in remission after rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. When she shared the good news, she had not yet decided whether reconstruction was something she wanted to do.

One year later, and the actress is still in remission and optimistic that she will stay that way.

“Cancer is a beast that changes one,” she shared in April. “For me, it changed me in a lot of beautiful ways. But it also gave me a new level of anxiety about things. All understandable. I share my experience to help connect, bring awareness and hopefully encourage those going thru cancer to stay positive. So many of you have helped me with your words, prayers and support. You have helped pave the path I have walked and continue to walk and I’m eternally grateful for that. I can only hope I have helped you as well.”

Judging from her comments section, it’s clear she has helped many.
