Redheaded Blogger Fights Back Against Body Shamers

Red hair, don’t care. British Instagrammer Georgia M is shutting down body shaming commenters with an inspiring dose of self-acceptance: “You can’t please everyone.”

When the redheaded beauty aficionado, a proudly self-proclaimed #ginger who routinely posts portraits showing off her long red locks, received an upsetting comment on one of her photographs, she decided to fight back.

“So last night I received a comment on one of my pictures basically calling me fat and of course it really upset me,” she explained, before unabashedly revealing that she considers herself “average, not ‘skinny’ and not ‘fat.'” But “either way, I shouldn’t have let a silly comment like that get to me because someone is always going to have something bad to say.”

But why say anything at all? Why acknowledge the hate, rather than ignore the comment altogether? “I basically posted about it because even though I’m not actually fat, I still get called it,” Georgia explained to Yahoo Beauty. “There’s always going to be someone that tries to bring you down, even if their opinion isn’t true,” and it’s important not to let a single opinion influence you too much. With that in mind, she says, “you should only seek the opinion of people that know you and love you for being yourself.”

In Georgia’s case, those people are most of her 53,000+ followers. “Yes, I do have chubby cheeks and a round face which I have no matter what weight I am, but does that really make me fat?” the proud redhead asked them, and the answer was a resounding no. Sure, the question may have been rhetorical, but many commenters jumped to respond nonetheless, encouraging Georgia to ignore the negative.

“You are gorgeous, take no notice of the idiots out there,” wrote @tooley777. “You should never sweat the opinions of obvious idiots,” seconded @huthehunter (with kissy-faced emoji for emphasis, of course). “Don’t let some troll get to you. You are so beautiful,” added @gdfathr3.

Some even offered sympathy for the shamers. “What a sad life some people live, where they have to try to make people feel bad, to try to ease the pain and hate they have in their life. You are BEAUTIFUL,” posted @rick20011. “People who say untrue things to others,” wrote @vividreaper22, “just means there not happy with themselves.”

Georgia noticed, taking to the comments herself just this morning to thank her followers for their kind words. Here’s to a little more of that on the Internet. Oh, and body positive commenters? Zendaya would be proud of you.
