The holiday season is a busy time, especially as we head into a new year. In addition to all of your New Year's Eve festivities — things like watching the ball drop, writing your resolutions, and whipping up a tray of New Year's Eve appetizers — you've also got to prepare for January 2 (a.k.a. return to real life). If you want to get ahead of the post-holiday rush, you might be tempted to knock out a few errands on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. And for that, you might need the United States Post Office — especially if your errand involves sending or receiving a piece of mail.

Of course, the Post Office provides other services besides simply shipping letters and packages. You can also purchase money orders, postage, packing supplies, and memorabilia, as well as apply for or renew your passport. If you need any of those services, here's everything you should know about the United States Post Office's New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holiday closures and hours. Because nothing's worse than heading out on a holiday only to discover that your destination is closed.

Is the Post Office open on New Year's Eve 2021?

Good news: If you need any of the Post Office's services on December 31, you're in luck. Post Office locations nationwide will be open on NewYear's Eve. Mail will also be delivered as usual on New Year's Eve.

Will the Post Office be open on New Year's Day?

Unfortunately, no. All Post Office locations will be closed on New Year's Day. Regular mail will not be delivered on January 1. However, Priority Mail Express will be delivered on New Year's Day. Regular Post Office hours and mail service will resume on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Are any mail delivery services open on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day?

The Post Office isn't the only mail delivery service you've come to rely on. Here are the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day hours and closures for FedEx, UPS, and Amazon, too:

• Amazon: Expecting a package? You'll probably have to wait a bit longer. Amazon will not be making deliveries on New Year's Day.
