From Town & Country

Netflix's new anthology series wants to know how easily normal, good people can turn bad. Oscar-winning actress Renée Zellweger anchors the first season, portraying a Silicon Valley investor with more than a few secrets.

In the trailer for What/If, Zellweger's character kicks off the drama, giving an indecent proposal to a pair of newlyweds-and setting viewers up for the mayhem to come. Here's what you need to know about the show, aside from the fact that it'll take up a big chunk of your weekend.

It comes from the creator of Scandal.

Based on the trailer for What/If, it deals with a lot of the same themes that showrunner Mike Kelley previously explored in ABC's Scandal.

The series deals with the culture of Silicon Valley.

Anne Montgomery (Zellweger) is an investor and thought leader in San Francisco-and she leverages her power in the tech world to proposition Lisa (Jane Levy) and Sean (Blake Jenner). In the trailer, Lisa is looking for someone to back her health start-up, and that's when Anne pops the question.

"Now that you're on the brink of greatness, are there still limitations to what you'd be willing to sacrifice?" she asks. "In this case, a night alone with your husband. Would that be an acceptable condition of a firm offer to finance your company?"

Based on the rest of the preview, however Anne responds, all does not end well.

Zellweger called her deliciously dangerous character "a treat."

What/If marks Zellweger's first turn in an episodic show, and though she told T&C that she found the new way of working daring and "slightly uncomfortable," she also loved playing Anne.

“She was a treat,” the actress says. “Every day, she says that thing that you wish you could say, but you wouldn't dare. But Anne does.”

What/If's first season is now available on Netflix.

All 10 episodes are now streaming on Netflix, making for some ideal Memorial Day weekend entertainment.
