LeBron James, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is skipping next week’s USA Basketball minicamp. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported the news Monday.

The minicamp will be held July 25-27 in Las Vegas, and it will be the first USA Basketball event with Gregg Popovich as the head coach. Popovich took over for Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.

James was in Las Vegas this past weekend watching the Los Angeles Lakers Summer League team. It was his first public outing since signing with the Lakers, but he has yet to speak.

McMenamin’s report said James is expected to make his first public comments about joining the Lakers on July 30, when the “I PROMISE school” opens in Akron.

James was one of 35 names selected to the group of players able to participate in the USA Basketball camp. The list was released in April. After the camp, USA Basketball will select 12 players to compete in the 2019 World Cup and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
