It's the most wonderful time of the year — the time the Good Housekeeping Institute releases the results of its year-long toy testing. Each year, parents, kids and GHI's scientists put the year's hottest toys through their paces. This year, testing and evaluations were done at home, as opposed to in our Little Lab, so we know how the toys held up in their natural habitats. After hours of play, these emerged as our 2020 Good Housekeeping Institute Toy Award winners!

How We Test

  1. SAFETY CHECK. Our engineers and analysts start by ensuring that each toy meets all safety standards. Then our experts assess pinch points and make sure toys won’t shatter into small pieces or pose a potential choking hazard.

  2. EASE OF USE. Next, we carefully evaluate how easily understood assembly is for parents and kids as well as the product’s construction and durability during play.

  3. KID APPROVAL. Final decisions come from nearly 100 children, ages 1 to 14, who assess the fun factor!
