Rihanna Thought People Were “Going to Laugh” At Her Iconic Met Gala Look

Rihanna’s Quarantine Outfit Is Just as Glam as You’d Expect

So. Many. Diamonds.

"Rihanna" and "best dressed at the Met Gala" are practically synonymous now, but the Fenty founder hasn't always been confident about her outfits for fashion's biggest night out.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Rihanna reflected on her look for the 2015 Met Gala, and recalled the intense choreography it took to even get in and out of the car in her yellow Guo Pei gown for the "China: Through the Looking Glass" themed event.

"That night, the choreography of getting in the car and getting out, like we had to choreograph it," she said. "Who sits at the door? Where does the coat go? Where do I sit?"

Believe it or not, leading up to the event, Rihanna was worried people would laugh at her.

"I remember being so scared to get out of that car because I felt like, 'I’m doing too much.'" she said. "I was driving past the red carpet, and I was just seeing like gowns, and I was like, 'Oh my god, like, I’m a clown. People are going to laugh at me. This is like, too much.' I thought that. I circled like, three times, I’m not even joking, and finally, I was like, 'Whatever, let’s go. Let’s just go. Let’s just go.' I know. I don’t regret it."

Rihanna also said she was aware of the memes people made out of photos of her in the dress, including the photoshops turning the train into a frying pan.

"The frying pan with the egg — legendary, legendary," she said.

Since 2007, Rihanna has been a fixture at the event and has consistently been one of the best-dressed people there. Though the Met Gala was canceled this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have no doubt Rihanna would have shown out if she had the chance to attend again.
