Pastel makeup and puffed sleeves are hardly the kind of styling details one would associate with Rihanna, but such is the magic of pop's baddest chameleon. Back in good girl mode, RiRi attended the Valerian premiere in Los Angeles last night in a frothy millennial pink confection that called for a head-to-toe beauty refresh down to her pedicure.

The singer, whose summer has included a romantic Ibiza getaway with rumored paramour Hassan Jameel and one resounding Instagram troll-slap, stepped back into the spotlight with trademark in-it-to-win-it swagger. But while her couture Giambattista Valli gown ticked all the princess boxes, her beauty strategy was all about clean, minimalist cool.

Above the neck, pinkish nude makeup played nicely with a textured high ponytail, while gleaming skin ushered a beachy favorite into unfussy black-tie territory. And yet, it was the singer's white-hot pedicure that stole the show, offering one last piece of advice to anyone overwhelmed by a rainbow of polish choices at the salon these days: With the right attitude, basic is never boring.
