Today in royal gossip: Prince Harry’s memoir is apparently worrying TF out of the royal inner circle. This isn’t really anything new; since Harry announced he was writing a memoir, the royal gossip machine has been buzzing with reports that no one in the Firm is happy with the decision. Usually, these reports just focus on vague worries that Harry will say too much/bring shame upon the royal family/etc.
A new report from The Sun gets a little more specific, though, and claims that royal insiders are worried because they’re pretty sure Harry’s publisher will be putting “extreme pressure” on him to identify the member of the royal family who made racist comments about Archie’s skin color before he was born.
This goes back to revelations from Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey. In it, they shared a story about an unnamed member of the royal family who had expressed concerns about the color of Archie’s skin when Meghan was pregnant with their first child. Harry made it clear at the time that he had no intention of ever revealing the identity of the family member in question (although he did confirm that it was not Queen Elizabeth or Prince Philip), but apparently now the palace is worried he’ll change his mind.
“The publishers are going to want a lot for their money, such as naming this so-called racist,” royal expert Penny Junor explained, referencing the reported $20 million advance on his book deal.
Junor says the racism issues aren’t all the royals are worried about when it comes to Harry’s book. He’s reportedly been interviewing some of Princess Diana’s friends for the book, which could specifically concern Charles and Camilla.
“He’s researching his mother’s life, so he’s going to be talking about his parents’ marriage, the breakup, the affairs. That could be incredibly damaging for his father and Camilla,” Junor said. “Charles is going to be king and Camilla his queen. The last thing they or the country needs is another upsurge of anger based on what I believe to be false, false accusations.”
Of course, it should go without saying, but PSA: There’s absolutely no way to know what exactly Harry is going to write about in his memoir until he actually, you know, publishes his memoir.
