Royal Style That’s Just as Elegant as Kate Middleton’s

Kate Middleton’s style icon status is officially in question.

On Wednesday, the newly appointed president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, and his wife, Juliana Awada, attended a gala dinner with Queen Letizia and King Felipe VI of Spain at the royal palace in Madrid. Not only did the foursome clearly hit it off on the way to dinner, they seriously raised the style bar.

While they walked with their husbands in tow, Awada wore a pale pink, floor-length gown with embroidered crystals, while Queen Letizia topped her long black velvet dress with a glittery crown. Earlier that day, the pair took a walk in front of the palace wearing similar shades of pink — Awada wrapped in a coat with a fur collar, and Valentino Rockstud heels and Queen Letizia wearing a belted blazer and pencil skirt.

In the short time since her husband took office in December, Awada, 41, has acquired an enviable reputation. Her Instagram account, boasting 756K followers, is stocked with photos of herself kissing and snuggling with her husband and doting on the couple’s 4-year-old daughter, Antonia (she also has a daughter named Valentina from a previous relationship).

The photos reflect Awada’s open-book philosophy on life. When asked by an Argentinian journalist about her husband’s sexual performance, Awada answered, “Can’t you see how happy I look?” President Macri was equally as forthcoming in 2013, when, according to the Daily Mail, he told a television journalist, “My wife has too much sex. She’s insatiable.” The couple reportedly met at the gym in 2009, when they shared a personal trainer.

Queen Letizia, 44, a mother of two (11-year-old daughter Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and 9-year-old Infanta Sofia of Spain), is also a trendsetter. In 2014, she sported a “faux bob,” a clipped-under hairstyle that, along with her fake eyelashes, made headlines.

“Letizia is very influential in the world of fashion in Spain, by popularizing certain tendencies or fashions,” Empar Prieto, an editor at the magazine S Moda, told People. “It’s true that whatever she puts on and is photographed in gets sold out.” Sounds like another royal we know.

Critics have also accused Queen Letizia, a former broadcast journalist, of dressing too provocatively. In 2015, she stirred up controversy with her “too short” hemlines and youthful style.

If the royal pals are looking to bolster their stylish squad, they’re in luck: Kate Middleton may be in the market for a bestie.
