On Wednesday, Kensington Palace announced the members of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding party which will include Prince George and Princess Charlotte as a page boy and bridesmaid.
Also making the cut? All three children of Markle’s best friends, Toronto-based power couple Ben and Jessica Mulroney.
Many had pegged Jessica Mulroney as a shoe-in for Markle’s maid of honour, until a Kensington Palace spokesperson announced earlier this month that Markle had nixed the idea altogether saying, “She has a very close knit group of friends and did not want to choose one over the other.”
Instead, seven-year-old twins John and Brian will walk down the aisle as page boys alongside their four-year-old sister, Isabel, known as “Ivy.”
The Mulroney clan landed in London earlier this week, with Jessica helping Markle with the last minute wedding preparations.
Although unknown to international audiences, many Canadians are already very familiar with the Mulroney family.
Forty two-year-old Ben Mulroney is a popular television host and the son of former Canadian prime minister, Brian Mulroney. Ben currently hosts the Canadian entertainment news show “eTalk” and the daily news show, “Your Morning.”
Jessica Mulroney, formerly Jessica Brownstein, is a fashion stylist and PR manager who’s family owns the Canadian chain of shoe stores, Browns Shoes. The 38-year-old makes regular appearances as a lifestyle expert on the Canadian television show “CityLine.”
Ben and Jessica Mulroney’s love story is just as romantic as that of their famous friends. The two met when they were just 17 and 15 years old at a mutual friend’s party. It wasn’t until 2007 when Ben finally mustered up enough courage to ask his “long-time crush” out on a date.
Their first date featured sushi and karaoke, during which Ben sang Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.” Nine months later, Ben proposed at Chez Nick, a popular Montreal diner they had both gone to as children. In 2008 they were married at St. Patrick’s Basilica in Montreal, celebrating their marriage in an upscale three-day event with 350 guests.
The Mulroneys now call Toronto home and are raising their three children while maintaining bustling, high-profile careers and friendships. Despite their life looking idyllic online, Jessica told a Toronto Life reporter it’s not all it appears.
“With social media, people assume your life is perfect from pictures, but there are so many challenges,” Jessica said. “We don’t sleep a lot, we hope to god that we’re doing this parenting thing right, and we’re constantly asking ourselves whether all of this work is worth it. We’re very lucky, but it’s definitely not perfection.”
Maybe not perfection- but pretty darn close.
The Mulroneys are sure to be catapulted to a new level of fame after their children make their international television debut at the royal wedding!
