Rumer Willis has celebrated the 58th birthday of her mother, Demi Moore, by sharing a throwback picture to her controversial 1996 film Striptease.

In the picture, posted on Willis’s Instagram, the then seven-year-old actor is seen hugging Moore, who is wearing underwear, black gloves and jewellery, which she sports in a famous stripping scene in the film.

“M A M A Happy Birthday,” Willis wrote. “I feel so grateful I get to live this life with you. You are the most badass, goofy, silly, Scorpio warrior woman I know. I love you to the [moon emoji]. Can’t wait to celebrate you today.”

In the comedy film, Moore portrayed a struggling single mother who begins working at a strip club called The Eager Beaver to pay off her debts. Willis played her daughter in the film.

Striptease is often considered one of the worst movies ever made, and faced controversy upon release as a result of Moore’s salary. She was paid an unprecedented $12.5m (£9.6m) to star in it, making her the highest-earning female actor at the time.

Moore also infamously stripped to her underwear while promoting the film on David Letterman’s US talk show.

In addition to the Striptease picture, Willis shared a number of other behind-the-scenes photographs to celebrate her mother’s birth, including shots taken on the set of Moore’s film Ghost (1991), and at the Striptease premiere.
