Rumors of heat-related closures untrue. Fayette schools are open Thursday and Friday.

Fayette school officials on Wednesday dispelled rumors that schools would be closing Thursday and Friday due to high temperatures and a heat advisory. District schools are open the rest of the week.

“It has come to our attention that there is a rumor circulating that Fayette County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to excessive heat. We wanted to confirm that this is just a rumor and school will be in session for the remainder of the week,” Fayette Schools’ chief of staff Tracy Bruno said in a letter to the school community.

“During the heat advisory period, please use caution and allow students to refill personal water bottles as often as needed throughout the day and prior to dismissal,” Bruno’s letter said.

‘We don’t know how this rumor started,” Fayette schools’ spokeswoman Dia Davidson-Smith told members of the media, “but in an effort to get ahead of it,” a note was sent to the entire school community.

As temperatures soared into the 90’s, the school district canceled outdoor activities such as band and athletic practices until 7:30 p.m. each day through Friday.
