When they aren’t watching NFL football with Taylor Swift, marrieds Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively can be found cheering on an elite AFC football star, as seen in our exclusive sneak peek from this week’s episode of FX’s Welcome to Wrexham.
Welcome to Wrexham follows Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as they navigate running the third-oldest professional football club in the world, the Red Dragons based out of a working-class town in North Wales, UK.

In 2020, Reynolds and McElhenney teamed up to purchase the Red Dragons in the hopes of turning the fifth tier club into an underdog story the whole world could root for. After a painful elimination in the playoffs, Season 2 has continued to track the club as they fight for promotion out of the National League and return to the English Football League.
In the exclusive clip above, Reynolds remarks on how Wrexham’s top goalscorer is not Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer nor Elliott Lee, but a striker from Wrexham AFC Women aka the “Wrexham Ladies” team founded in 2018. Following their takeover of the club in February 2021, McElhenney and Reynolds immediately invested £50,000 into the women’s section. Wrexham AFC Women entered the northern section of the second tier (the Genero Adran North) for the first time in 2021-22 and remained in the division for 2022-23 with the stated goal of earning promotion to the Genero Adran Premier.
So, who is Wrexham-at-large’s No. 1 goalscorer, whom Reynolds and Lively can be seen enthusiastically cheering on? Press play above to see the superstar in action.
Elsewhere in this week’s episode, titled “Ballers” and airing Tuesday at 10/9c, the most dominant football team in Wales takes the pitch as they race toward promotion — all while juggling their day jobs.
