We think there's a lot to love about yogurt, from the calcium, probiotics, and high protein to the sheer ease of grabbing a scoop when you need something healthy, filling, and fast. One ongoing concern about dairy yogurt is that like some other products made from animal milk, it had been thought to cause inflammation in the body, which can lead to some infections, diseases, and disorders. Now, a study out of Israel has discovered that the probiotics in yogurt products may actually reduce inflammation to make the immune system stronger—including against COVID-19.There are certainly plenty of people who are sensitive to dairy or who have to avoid it entirely. For others, who can eat and enjoy it, there's been some debate in parts of the medical community in recent years. Some professionals have followed the debate in some literature about whether consuming dairy can lead to a wide range of ails that include arthritis to depression, and even acne and more.RELATED: 7 Healthiest Foods To Eat Right NowWhile there are studies that have found reason in some of this, it's no good for those who look to a food like yogurt for its role as a healthy, reliable diet staple. For that audience, now there's exciting news: two researchers who conducted a university study in Israel have found that molecules from the probiotics in kefir (a liquid drink that's very similar to yogurt) significantly reduced the contagion level of the agent that causes cholera. In a follow-up study, the scientists found that the same molecules also acted as an anti-inflammatory force against some viral disease models. This included the "cytokine storm," which is the immune response that has been discovered as a leading cause of death in COVID-19 patients. "Our research illuminates for the first time a mechanism by which milk fermented probiotics can protect against pathogenic infections and aid the immune system," said Professor Raz Jelinek, the Vice President of Research and Development at Ben Gurion University at the Negev. This is likely to lead to more research for greater understanding… but in the meantime, this study's findings could be one more reason to grab a spoon. When Dustin Diamond died of lung cancer at age 44, it was shock—because he was so young, but also because it happened so fast. "Different people have different symptoms for lung cancer," says the CDC. "Some people have symptoms related to the lungs. Some people whose lung cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastasized) have symptoms specific to that part of the body. Some people just have general symptoms of not feeling well. Most people with lung cancer don't have symptoms until the cancer is advanced. Lung cancer symptoms may include" the following. Read on—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Signs Your Illness is Actually Coronavirus in Disguise. 1 You May Have Coughing That Gets Worse or Doesn't Go Away "Anyone who has a cough with the following symptoms should see a doctor as soon as possible:blood or rust colored mucus or phlegmshortness of breathchest paininfections such as bronchitis or pneumonia that recur or do not go awayA cough that occurs with lung cancer can be either dry or wet. It can occur at any time, and it can interfere with sleep at night," reports Medical News Today. "Most people who develop lung cancer have a history of smoking. Smoking can also irritate the lungs and cause a short term cough." 2 You May Have Chest Pain You may have "chest pain that is often worse with deep breathing, coughing, or laughing," says the American Cancer Society. 3 You May Have Shortness of Breath "Dyspnea is the medical word for difficulty breathing. It's a common symptom in people who have lung cancer or have cancer that has spread to the lungs. Dyspnea happens when you have trouble moving air in and out of your lungs. You can also have dyspnea if your lungs aren't getting enough oxygen," reports the University of Rochester Medical Center. "People who have dyspnea describe it as difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath. They often compare it to feeling like they are suffocating or being smothered. In many cases, you may feel anxious or panic if you think you can't breathe. Often your anxiety and fears can make the dyspnea worse. By panicking, you can become more breathless and begin a cycle that is hard to stop." 4 You May Have Wheezing "Inflammation and narrowing of the airway in any location, from your throat out into your lungs, can result in wheezing," says the Mayo Clinic. "The most common causes of recurrent wheezing are asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which both cause narrowing and spasms (bronchospasms) in the small airways of your lungs." Lung cancer can also be a cause. 5 You May Cough Up Blood The medical term for coughing up blood "is hemoptysis, the presence of blood in the sputum (spit or phlegm) coughed up from the lungs. It is estimated that 7-10 percent of lung cancer patients present (when seen by a medical professional) with hemoptysis and approximately 20 percent experience it through the course of their illness. Lung cancers account for 23 percent of hemoptysis in the United States," according to LungCancer.net. 6 You May Feel Tired All the Time "Fatigue is the most frequently reported symptom in lung cancer patients throughout the entire course of disease, and all international guidelines recommend early screening for cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and symptoms that can affect patients' quality of life," says a study in Dove Press. "In patients with lung cancer, fatigue belongs to the symptom cluster of pain, depression, and insomnia, which are commonly observed simultaneously, but are typically treated as separate although they may have common biological mechanisms." 7 You May Have Weight Loss With No Known Cause "In patients with lung cancer and mesothelioma, weight loss is common at presentation and a frequent cause of patient concern," reports the British Journal of Cancer. "Weight loss is the result of an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure."RELATED: Signs You're Getting One of the "Most Deadly" Cancers 8 You May Also Have These Symptoms "Other changes that can sometimes occur with lung cancer may include repeated bouts of pneumonia and swollen or enlarged lymph nodes (glands) inside the chest in the area between the lungs," says the CDC. "These symptoms can happen with other illnesses, too. If you have some of these symptoms, talk to your doctor, who can help find the cause." And to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.
Yes, Dolly Parton is everywhere right now. As if her talent and lovability didn't deserve attention enough, most of us know she was also a generous player who funded research for the COVID-19 vaccines. However, Dolly's most recent contribution just about broke the internet this week. Yes, we too were excited about Dolly Parton's new ice cream… but we mayyybe didn't expect it to sell out quite that fast.Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams recently crafted Strawberry Pretzel Pie ice cream as "our ode to the Queen of Country," as their website explains. The brand's product description makes clear that Strawberry Pretzel Pie channels the essence of Dolly herself: "sweet and salty, with timeless appeal, deep American roots, and makes you feel darn good." They say the flavor contains "[l]ayers of salty pretzel streusel, subtly sweet and effortlessly tangy cream cheese ice cream, and lipstick red strawberry sauce." As if all of the above is not enough reason to want it, the Strawberry Pretzel Pie ice cream will benefit Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which is "a book gifting program that gives free books to children from birth to age five."RELATED: Grocery Shortages To Expect in 2021, According To ExpertsWell, all that was evidently plenty to spark a national ice cream spree. Jeni's site sells ice cream to ship nationwide, and they had announced that the Jeni's x Dolly Parton collab would officially go on sale Thursday, April 9 at noon…… And, it did. The problem was that we, like many, quickly learned that hitting the refresh button for 30 minutes straight meant the Strawberry Pretzel Pie launch had gone a little too well. Jeni's site crashed the second the ice cream was to go on sale, and we saw that Dolly and Jeni's fans around the country were none too happy about it on social media.Hey, when two powerful brands link up, maybe we should expect big things. While Jeni's was requiring buyers to purchase a minimum of four pints, at press time their site states that they're limiting shoppers to two pints of Strawberry Pretzel Pie per purchase. They're inviting fans to submit their email addresses to be notified when supplies are re-stocked. In the meantime, we'll applaud this launch for brand collaboration at its finest.Fortunately there are plenty of groceries you can find online this weekend: Check out the 9 Foods You're Crazy Not To Buy at Costco Right Now.

Cannabis has seen an ever-increasing acceptance within society in the past few years. There are now 35 states that allow for at least the medical use of cannabis, with Mississippi and South Dakota being added to the list this year. Although many people believe there are great uses of cannabis, such as for pain or depression, there are obvious side effects. As an Emergency Physician, I see these side effects of cannabis use very often. Read on—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Signs Your Illness is Actually Coronavirus in Disguise. 1 You Might Feel Nausea and Vomiting One of the most common side effects that is not well known is that it can cause severe nausea and vomiting. The condition, called cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, is usually seen with daily users but can occur in any patient. It is characterized by nausea and vomiting that can need IV fluids and anti-nausea medications. Most patients describe that these symptoms improve with hot showers or using creams made from the active ingredient found in chili peppers, capsaicin. Although the symptoms can be managed, the best treatment is complete abstinence from cannabis. 2 You Might Feel Anxiety Cannabis is used for some patients who have depression or anxiety. There is a subset of patients who will experience a paradoxical effect. Some patients will have severe anxiety and even paranoia after use. Most patients can connect the anxiety with the use of marijuana that contains high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. Some patients find their anxiety is lessened with cannabis products that are higher in CBD or cannabidiol. If you are using cannabis for the treatment of depression and anxiety, it is important to work closely with a physician to ensure appropriate treatment. 3 You Might Feel Hunger It is difficult to see cannabis in popular movies or television that does not highlight the "munchies" that occur. For some patients, particularly cancer patients or AIDS patients, cannabis is specifically used for the treatment of their complete lack of appetite. Although helpful for some patients, increased hunger can lead to detrimental side effects, such as obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes. If you are going to be using cannabis for medical treatment, it is important to track your caloric intake and monitor your weight. 4 You Might Feel Sedation or Impairment As with many medications, there is the possibility of decreased attention and increased sedation with cannabis use. This can lead to dangerous conditions if the patient is operating heavy machinery or even driving. Consumer Reports published an article last year confirming that in states that have legalized cannabis usage, auto accidents have increased in comparison to their neighboring states. The article goes on to describe that possibly 50% of medical cannabis patients drove while under the influence. It is essential to realize the sedative features of cannabis and avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. 5 You Might Develop Psychiatric Health Concerns Depression and anxiety are certain diagnoses that proponents of cannabis use state are safely treated. There is data suggesting, however, that cannabis can be problematic in patients with other psychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia. Some studies suggest there is a direct correlation between the usage of cannabis as a teenager and the development of schizophrenia later in life.RELATED: What Smoking Marijuana Every Day Does to Your Body 6 You Might Feel Dry Mouth Specifically, for patients who use cannabis by smoking, dry mouth can be a very common side effect. Although it seems more of a nuisance than a true side effect, dry mouth can have some major health concerns. Good oral health, such as gum and dental health, requires a moist environment. With drying out of the oral cavity, there can be a regression of the gums which can lead to tooth decay and even teeth falling out. 7 You Might Foster Decreased Sperm Health Cannabis has been found to reduce sperm viability in a number of different ways, one of which being the number of sperm produced. In a study in Denmark, weekly use of cannabis was found to reduce the number of sperm. Other studies have looked at the health of the sperm in patients who use cannabis regularly. There seems to be a correlation with cannabis use and sperm that do not have appropriate forward movement, or appropriate ability to contact and thereby fertilize the egg within the female reproductive tract. There has been a major push to legalize the use of cannabis for medical treatment of many different disorders. Although there is anecdotal evidence of its benefits, specifically in seizures and chronic pain, it is not without side effects. It is important to consult your physician before starting any medical treatment, including cannabis. There are times we hear about recalls or concerns about a food's ingredients, but we might easily dismiss the news because it doesn't pertain to a product we buy. Unfortunately, that is not the case for a food that many of us might have in our pantries as we speak. The brand that's arguably been the best-known macaroni and cheese for decades is being sued for allegedly using an ingredient that's been shown to harm the health of some children for years, leading to hormonal issues, asthma, and more. Before you prepare for a pantry purge, we've got details.Kraft Macaroni&Cheese allegedly contains chemicals that have been connected with allergies, asthma, obesity, and hormone interference in children—this, according to what some trade websites for the legal profession are reporting about the matter. It's not entirely clear what led two plaintiffs to bring a case against the Kraft Heinz Company (which makes Kraft Macaroni&Cheese) on April 5 in the Northern District of California. However, immediate research suggests that at least one of the two plaintiffs could possibly have someone in their family who may have been negatively impacted by the chemical that the plaintiffs are calling the Kraft Heinz Company out for. At the moment, the specific circumstances seem unclear and we're careful not to speculate.RELATED: Costco Foods You Should Always Avoid, According to NutritionistsSo while there are some details that seem unknown, perhaps the important point to note is that some consumer advocates have reportedly been calling on the makers of Kraft Macaroni&Cheese to remove phthalates from the product since 2017. If this is true, then Kraft Heinz is likely aware of the claims regarding their alleged use of phthalates, and this lawsuit contends that they knowingly continued to use the chemicals in Kraft Macaroni&Cheese—despite the dangers about phthalates that some scientists have documented. Namely, a 2015 study found that "immunologic changes, including increased propensity to develop wheeze, allergy and asthma after dietary and inhalation exposure to these chemicals, may be occurring."It seems more could unfold as this Kraft Macaroni&Cheese lawsuit gets underway. In the meantime, be aware.
