Hong Kong singer Sammi Cheng announces her 49th birthday celebration event but her team will be restricting the gathering to only Hong Kong fans given the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
The birthday party is titled "Listen to Sammi birthday GIG" and will be held on 18 August, a day before the singer's 49th birthday, at the Hong Kong EMAX Star Hall. Since revamping her fan club in 2017, Cheng had strived to celebrate her birthday with her fans until the pandemic forced the 48-year-old to cancel the 2020 celebration.
In consideration of the pandemic, Cheng expressed her wish to keep her fans safe, hence restricting the in-person party to only Hong Kong fans. However, after news of her birthday party was announced, Cheng's foreign fans were said to have expressed interest in wanting to be part of the event and requested her team to hold an online live broadcast of the party. "We will consider it," Cheng said, replying to the request.
"Listen to Sammi birthday GIG" birthday party will be opened to 2,000 fans with COVID-19 guidelines in place. Cheng's agency had also restricted ticket purchases to fans of the singer's official fan club to combat illegal ticket reselling. Only those who had joined before the party's announcement on 11 July will be eligible to purchase a ticket to the birthday party.
Cheng, who has been active on her Instagram, regularly shares her day and #OOTDs with her fans. She recently posted clips of her concerts, reminiscing the times, and wishing that she could hold concerts again soon.
With her last album released in 2017, Cheng also stirred up her fans by teasing a new single that she will be dropping soon with rapper Shimica. The singer posted behind-the-scenes videos and photos of the music video filming with her fans, asking everyone to anticipate the release; however, she didn't mention the release date.
